Whenever I've "practiced" getting my head chopped on on a log or back of a chair etc, it always hurts my adams apple, which would ruin all of the fun of my execution. In most movies the actor holds his neck slightly above the block, or with his shoulders pressed against the block so that his adams apple is over the other side of the block, I've always worried that the curved block with an indent for a man's adams apple to make him comfortable would allow the blade wouldn't be able to slam far enough to sever his head instantly. So I've become of total fan of the guillotine - in movies the bascule is always an inch or two above the bottom of the lunette...making it very pleasureable for a guy to be glancing down into the basket waiting for the blade to drop.

I suppose it depends on the block. A well shaped block should allow a good curvature for the victim to be as comfortable as possible before his beheading. If I'm kneeling at the block and my chest and shoulders are pressed against it, allowing my Adam's apple to be on the other side of the block, the executioner should still be able to sever my head in one stroke, although it probably wouldn't leave me with much of a neck stump.

I also like the idea of having my head taken off in a guillotine, but if you don't like the block (and I personally love the idea of kneeling at my execution) what about a sword beheading? A personal favourite of mine is being hanged by the feet and having my head struck off with a sword.
